Community Celebration
Community Celebration, Lyme Green Community Park, Sunday the 25th May 2024.
Park 4all @ Lyme Green, held another very successful get together in Lyme Green Community Park, thanks to the generous financial support of ‘The National Lottery Community Fund’. There are always many things to do in the preparation leading up to such an event and even on the morning to get everything organised.
The event was organised to bring the community together, where people of all ages could learn new skills, make new friends, address issues of social isolation and loneliness and the entry was free. Visitors could bring their own picnic if liked.
For the residents struggling with mobility, our volunteers looked after them with our ‘Adopt a Resident Scheme, where we would pick up residents from their home if they were unable to get to the park on their own, or even if they just needed that little bit of company.
The event started at 1pm with the Djembe African drumming group and Mr Will performing live. For the latter part of the session they held a workshop where anyone could join in and have a go on the drums. A number of children and adults had a go and this was hugely successful with lots of smiley faces all round.
Whilst being entertained residents were able to obtain refreshments from Matt at The Coffee Plant or drinks from the caravan bar. Hot food was served by Wiggles Pizza and cold delights from Tanya at Parvey Garden with delicious cakes from Emily at Home Baking Cheshire.
At 2pm singer/songwriter Joel Gardner entertained everyone and people were relaxing in the sunshine and enjoying the music and food, making new friends and catching up with old friends. Many residents brought their own picnic and lots of people took the opportunity of having a delicious ice cream from Granelli’s ice cream van.
Whilst all this was going on there were several stall holders offering for sale numerous craft items and members of ‘Save Danes Moss’ providing glitter tattoos and nature based activities for the children.
At 3.10pm Macc Woodfleet took to the stage performing all the songs you love but not limited to Fleetwood Mac.
The weather was holding up, with some occasional spots of rain, But this did nothing to diminish the enjoyment of the hundreds of people who joined us during the day.
At 4.50pm a pop/rock covers band, Sonic Jukebox entertained the younger end of the community and after a short break The Chinese Marbles took to the stage. THE band played a truly electric mix of genres including rock, funk, disco, reggae and blues with both covers and originals in their own musical style.
7.45pm until close of the event at 8.30pm residents danced to music played by the DJ.
A huge number of volunteers worked hard to make this event a success. Months of organising went into the event, with a licence being necessary to hold the event in a Cheshire East Council Park, a further licence obtained to sell refreshments, plus all the arrangements for the day with numerous volunteers giving up their time to prepare for the event, see it safely through and tidy up afterwards, We were all kept safe by Tim from Peak Medical and Rescue with his own emergency ambulance in the park ready to deal with any accident or illness that might arise.
As well as the grant provided by the National Lottery Community fund, a number of local businesses and residents provided raffle and tombola prizes and we are very grateful for their support.
Thank you again to everyone…
